We have a member of the family who, for the sake of the story, I’ll call Joe. Joe has a couple of kids and wanted to capture every moment, so he went all in on a big, expensive camera, the best of the best.

At first, he was thrilled. But the camera turned out to be more complicated than he expected, so he switched it to automatic. After a few months, the excitement faded. The camera collected more dust than memories.

Sure, we got a few great photos. But the thing was heavy, uncomfortable, and sending pictures to others became a whole process. In the end, no one really got the photos.

This isn’t just Joe’s story. I’ve seen it happen again and again. Convenience always wins over quality.

And there’s nothing more convenient than the phone in your hand.

I’m not here to talk you out of getting a fancy camera, I own a couple myself. But if you’re just starting out, try something compact first, like this one maybe. See how it feels in your hands. If you love it, you can move up to something more advanced, like this or even this. But the first camera you should be mastering is the one you already carry with you every day: your phone.

It can do so much more than most people realize.

To help you get the most out of it, I’m going to walk you through three simple settings that instantly improve the quality and process of your phone photos. These are the same ones I use daily, and they’ve made a difference.

This article saves you from the rabbit hole of tutorials and reviews, so you can focus on what really matters, taking better photos, right now.
