STOP STANDING LIKE A STATUE: SELFIE POSES THAT ACTUALLY WORK
Selfie Challenge Week 5 - Selfies that say cool, not cringe.
If you decide to take a selfie… and it looks like this
I’m gonna hold your hand gently… and tell you the truth:
You need help.
That pose died 15 years ago. And as your designated photo friend, I can’t let this keep happening. We’re reviving your selfie TODAY, with movement, with jazz, with a little spice.
In this selfie workshop, I’m giving you real, actionable poses to look more confident, more relaxed, and more you in every shot.
You’re not about to see examples in some exotic location, dripping in designer clothes, next to a model with a flawless face and body, and a boyfriend who looks like Ken.
Nope.
It’s just me, simple makeup, simple outfit, shot inside my home. These poses are made to work with just your phone and a window.
You can elevate them later—but this is your foundation. A place to nail the classics, and get creative with your own twist.
These poses work for a IG grid post, a story, a flirty DM… Or even the WhatsApp group chat, yes, the one with that frenemy who squints when you look cute.

Section 1: Stepping Up Your Mirror Selfie
When I say mirror selfie, the default is to stand up straight in front of the mirror and snap. But for this one, I want you to grab a chair—yes, any chair you have at home—and place it in front of the mirror.
Now, I know your mom told you to stand up straight, and I’m constantly preaching about posture too. But like everything in life, too much of a good thing, not always good.
Here’s a perfect example of missing the sweet spot:
📸 On the left, I’m standing super straight. And while you might think I’m joking, I'm not. This is a real pose I’ve seen way too many times on IG. It gives… ancient Egyptian art. Iconic? sure. But not for us. Not in this day and age. You look frozen. You look terrified.
📸 On the right, I’m creating shapes, a triangle with my leg. But my back is fully relaxed on the chair. And listen…
If you’re super petite, you might be able to get away with this. But if you’ve got any kind of volume (hello, same), that pose is not gonna do you any favors.
And I know where your brain wants to go—
“Maybe if I lost a few pounds…”
“Maybe if I looked different…”
NO!!! DUDE. STOP.
Don’t go all the way back on the chair, move closer to the middle, right near the edge. Don’t melt into it like you’re watching Netflix. You want to sit tall enough to stay comfortable, arch your back just a little… and boom!
No Photoshop required. You’re welcome.
This pose gives you options. It lets you play with body language. How? Continue reading to see the three variations you can try to generate more photo options.
