Hey, I’m Bonnie and welcome to my Friday newsletter. Each week I share insight into the art of being photogenic, including how to pose, what to wear—fashionable style, makeup—and a lot of whatnot that may benefit your photo. Why, because you can do all that with a phone camera.
A popular app has been helping people appear younger and slimmer with flawless looking skin for more than a decade … Khloe Kardashian described it as “life-changing.”
Now that I’ve got your attention, let me tell you about my exclusive one-on-one interview with FaceTune, the app Khloe told the Daily Beast all about plus James Charles, Molly Mae, and Abby Roberts use daily to improve how they appear on social.
While many a celebrity hoped to keep the application of FaceTune a secret, social media users and outlets have roundly, routinely, and repeatedly called them out, including the likes of Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid, and Britney Spears for their conspicuous usage, especially editing out of their self-picture a wealth of characterization and detail that their original photo must have provided.
To keep us from editing out the “life-changing” aspect of our photo by mistake and hence joining with the co-op of other people in this blasted mess on an op-ed page, the news team at Photogenic worked hard to secure my interview.
I sat down with the brand communications manager and a product designer at FaceTune, and asked the burning questions all of us have been dying to know but were too afraid to ask our fave celeb. What I got in return was some incredible insight into the app, parsing challenges and solutions of data integration in photos and edits for the benefit of the subscriber community at large.
Here are some topics of discussion and takeaways from the interview.
Common mistakes to avoid while using the app
Tips and techniques for perfect skin
Best practices for editing the body in photos
How to remove unwanted elements in photos and their limitations
Industry trends
Ethical considerations
All that and much more are covered in this newsletter exclusive.
There is a small chance that, in the process of your FaceTune edit suffering a catastrophic failure for which no legal liability can be assigned, you may refer to this video and arrive in a time frame different from the one you were expecting. We recommend proceeding through this chart first, to better orient yourself in the subject matter of the interview. Then watch the video from start to finish. And use the chart for quick reference now and in the future to view a segment of the video. Super useful.
Enjoy!
